Chicago Week 2: a blog of sorts

Slacked a bit on the weight lifting due to lack of sleep, but I finally got a damn bike: a ‘09 Schwinn Le Tour: Team in Training. It’s a special Team Leukemia & Lymphoma edition, which makes me seem like I’m a triathlete of some sort. Not quite the case.

We dug into some deeper work in rehearsals. It was difficult, but necessary. We’re breaking out of our bad habits and discovering more about the nuances of the story and our characters. Hopefully, we will make enough progress in time to have a smooth show by previews.

Friday it was Joyee’s birthday (the kid is 23) and we had a huge dinner at flow-nomenal Viet restaurant Simply It and followed up with drinks at the un-bannered Tiny Lounge in Lincoln Square. Had me some sazaracs. I love sazaracs.

Saturday, after a particularly tough day of rehearsal, I met up with Sarath at Piece Restaurant. Imagine a mix between Father’s Office gastropub and a classic pizza parlor. We killed an entire pizza.

Sunday, got our Spam fix at Aloha Eats. The cashier said that I was ‘so fine’. I laughed out of awkwardness, and felt like an inconsiderate dick. That night saw the continuation of our Sunday ritual of beers and board games at Allan’s place. We played more For Sale, and an introductory round of Nexus Ops. Our descent into geekdom goes on…

Today, I rode the bike along the lake path (awesome) and met Sarath at a free jazz performance at the Gehry designed Pritzker Pavillion. Then headed to have some amazing Cajun food at Heaven on Seventh. I’m still thinking about how clean and simple their jambalaya is. Authentic, and yet it fools me into thinking it’s actually healthy. Finished the day with a study session at this converted three-story brownstone turned coffee shop.

Things I learned from the party

1. Next time, buy onions. Especially if you have sausages.

2. Clearly label the Recycling bin

3. Bring extra towels. And clothes, for the ppl who get thrown in.

4. Try to take pictures of everyone who shows

5. Soak the cedar planks early.

6. Cook the expensive food first

7. Some girls really DO need to be pushed in. Literally AND figuratively.

8. Belly flops hurt.

9. Nut flops also hurt.

10. A jacuzzi on the deck would be killer.

11. I have severely under-utilized my house this year.
